30 Things I Wish I knew before Becoming an Event Planner!

Hey Party Babes! Ever wondered, what should I know before becoming an event planner?

What should I know before becoming an event planner?

30 Things I wish I knew before becoming an event planner
  1. Say goodbye to your weekends, basically forever! lol
  2. Fridays are your new Mondays.
  3. When you find skilled party helpers, cherish them and pay them well!
  4. You donā€™t need to buy everything you think is pretty to ā€œbuild your inventory.ā€ (Even if itā€™s on sale!)
  5. If you have children, you will need a weekend babysitter.
  6. If you have older children, they can help you as a party assistant. Yay!
  7. Get your remaining balance paid at least 2 weeks before the event date.
  8. Get a contract and stick to your policies, no exceptions!
  9. Take the time to call vendors, and get actual prices on how much it costs to produce an event.
  10. Utilize social media to grow your business faster, yesā€¦do the Reels! lol
  11. Know that you will often miss your own family and friendā€™s events, if youā€™re fully booked yourself.
  12. Event business insurance doesnā€™t cost that much, just get it!
  13. Start a Yelp page immediately, and ask for honest reviews after each event. You may need to incentivize!
  14. If you get into the decorating side, you will need to figure out how to transport larger items.
  15. Always leave a little earlier than Google tells you.
  16. Buy weights for the backdrop stand!! Tie down the backdrop stand!!
  17. Your husband will likely become CO-CEO, he just wonā€™t get paid for it! lol
  18. Always take your own pictures, even if people say theyā€™ll send them to you after the party!
  19. Start party prep earlier than the Friday before the event, at the very least Wednesday.
  20. Look for gently used event decor to build your inventory on OfferUp and Facebook Marketplace.
  21. Make sure your event service packages are actually profitable, run the numbers!!
  22. Create alternate sources of income related to your event planning services to increase revenue.
  23. Make email templates, and copy and paste in clientā€™s information or use automated booking apps!
  24. Do your taxes, correctly. If your yearly income isnā€™t sufficient or increasing, this may just need to be a hobby.
  25. Always open your Amazon packages as soon as you get them, not the day before the event!
  26. If you decorate, inventory will start to take over. Youā€™ll need a dedicated room, garage, and eventually a storage unit or warehouse.
  27. Make a just in case kit! (for any and every situation, from extra chargers and deodorant to safety pins and scissors)
  28. When you first start out, raise your prices after every event. Later, raise your prices every year.
  29. Most of your time will be spent at your desk doing admin, emailing, talking to clients/vendors, ordering etc! Not at events lol
  30. Every client is not a good client, find your target market!.
